L&B Soul Kitchen
L&B Soul Kitchen is run by Mrs. Ernesta Berry, affectionately known as “Dinkey Da Diva” and her beautiful family: husband Teon Berry, sister Pinky Berry, and daughter Gennae Taylor.
Dinkey was born and raised in Chicago. She attended Carl Schurz High School. After graduating from Schurz she attended Triton University and studied Business. She enjoys spending time with her family, and of course she enjoys cooking as well.
The 1st L&B Soul Kitchen is located at 633 Bellwood Ave; however, it is currently being remodeled. That location was originally opened in January of 2012. Dinkey has lived in the Bellwood since 1994, and has raised her own family there. I asked her why she decided to open a restaurant in Bellwood and she said, “why not invest in the community where I started my family?”
The 2nd L&B Soul Kitchen is located at 5451 W. Madison St. The Madison location is set to open Thursday, April 20th. The Grand Opening will however be Friday, May 12th.
With the opening of these 2 locations, Dinkey is proud to provide jobs to people in the community. “The community needs to come together,” she said. L&B Soul Kitchen also makes it a point to serve food to the homeless every year on Thanksgiving.
L&B Soul Kitchen is famous for their eggrolls: buffalo chicken, jerk chicken, and Philly cheesesteak. For those who know me, you know I never play about my money or my food. And baby, money is WELL spent on their eggrolls! Those jerk chicken eggrolls are some kind of good! But they also have a menu full of other delicious foods besides eggrolls well: rice bowls (with chicken, beef or shrimp), breakfast items, and salads. Dinkey describes her
freshly made salad combinations as, “a taste out of this world”.
The Madison location will also be the new home of Jay’s Backyard BBQ! Mr. Jay Young will be there grilling up his famous ribs, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, jerk chicken sandwiches, and his Down and Dirty rice!
Dinkey is looking to expand into L&B Soul Kitchen food trucks and also a location on the south side. L&B Soul Kitchen will be doing delivery and catering out of both locations.
You can place your order inside the establishment once its opened of course; however, but for now, orders can be placed via Facebook and the Soul Kitchen Hotline 708-228-2170.
When asked what words of encouragement she would say to her younger self she said:
“Stay focused, follow your heart, and believe in yourself. Invest the negative energy that you consume into yourself and make it positive, into things that’ll help you grow.”
Dinkey also runs an at home day care called “Our Little Scholars”, it has been open since 2011. She also has a kid’s entertainment business called “L&B Entertainment”, which has been open since 2007. The entertainment company offers inflatables and cartoon characters. Both companies can also be found on Facebook.
If you are looking to place an order for lunch, or even your next party or big event contact Dinkey!
